INVALIDS
ISSUE OVERPRINTS
Due to increased tariffs the Invalids issue was overprinted with new
values, the new sales price being 1.10 and 2.15 Mk. Also the overprinted
issue was supposed to be used within the country only, but was accepted
for mail to other countries.
Gum: Afterthe overprint the stamps were regurnmed,
the new gum being yellowish and shiny.
Print: Typographed by "Ühiselu" in
Tallinn. The OPT was made on full printer's sheets and often sold
over the counter uncut. The OPT is often shifted horizontally or vertically.
Perforation: imperforate. Postmaster perforations
are known.
Forgeries are known.
Valid: The over the counter sale was stopped December
31, 1921. However, due to a shortage of stamps the remainders (about
600 000) were once more put on sale (April 27, 1922), but now without
the original surtax. Valid: 1 Mk. until March 31,
1926. 2 Mk. until December 31, 1940.
Literature:
E. Sjögren: Distinguishing Features of Jaan Lubi Forgeries of
Estonian Stamps. 11, Eesti Filatelist No 29,1983 (in English).
