Väheldast mõõtu üliharuldane üksnes Jangtse jõe alamjooksu vesikonnas elutsev krokodilliline. Loodusliku asurkonna kogusuuruseks hinnatakse 300 - 400 isendit. Peale kohalike kaitsemeetmete vajab see liik püsima jäämiseks pidevat tehistingimustes pidamise, uurimise ja paljundamise tuge. Selleks on New Yorki Zooloogia Seltsi eestvedamisel oma jõupingutused ühendanud mitmed maailma loomaaiad, kelle hulka kuulub ka Tallinna Loomaaed.
A smallish and very rare crocodilian living only on the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. It is estimated that there are no more than 300 - 400 Chinese alligators living in the wild. Besides local protective actions for the survival of the species the support of captive breeding programmes in zoos throughout the world is needed. Breeding the Chinese alligator, a number of zoos, among them Tallinn Zoo, have joined their efforts under the leadership of the Wildlife Conservation Society in New York.
