Piibli tõlkimine on maailmarahvaste kultuuride arengus väga oluline tegevus. Piibli evangeelse osa "Wastse (Uus) Testamendi" tõlkis lõunaeesti keelde Kambja pastor Andreas Verginius, toimetas tema poeg Adrian Verginius. "Wastne Testament" ilmus Riias 1686. aastal, olles "esimene läbinisti eestikeelne raamat" ning kujutab endast ka praegu lõunaeesti kirjakeele mälestusmärki. "Wastne Testament" kujunes maarahva oluliseks lugemisvaraks ja maailmapildi kujundajaks. See oli oluline kultuurisündmus, millega avanes nagu suur aken muusse maailma ja mis oli heaks tõukeks eesti keele arengüle. "Wastne Testament", mille tiitelleht aastast 1686 on kujutatud margil, oli eestlaste isiksust ja moraali kujundav sündmus.
Wastne Testament, the New Testament’s translation into the South-Estonian dialect, was published in Riga in 1686. It was the first extensive Bible translation into Estonian and the first book ever printed that is Estonian from cover to cover. The translation was made by Andreas Verginius, pastor at the southern Estonia parish of Kambja, and edited by his son, Adrian Verginius. Wastne Testament, an eye-opener and important source of information which helped shape the character and morals of the indigenous Estonian population, also gave a temporary advantage to the South-Estonian dialect. It was not until fifty years later that a full Bible translation into Estonian (the North-Estonian dialect) was published. The stamp brings a reproduction of Wastne Testament’s title page.
