20. juunil 1992 kell 4 hommikul kehtestati Eesti Vabariigis pärast enam kui poole sajandi pikkust vaheaega taas ainsa seadusliku maksevahendina Eesti kroon. Mõne päeva jooksul said Eesti elanikud endale 1500 Nõukogude rubla vastu oma esimesed 150 krooni. Sellele sujuvalt kulgenud reformile oli eelnenud tohutu eeltöö ja mitmed olulised otsused. Üks tähtsamaid neist oli Eesti rahasüsteemi loomine valuutakomitee põhimõtte alusel ja krooni kursi jäik sidumine Saksa margaga (nüüd euroga). Üleminek oma rahale pani aluse Eesti majanduse kiirele arengule, lahutades selle lõplikult otsesest sõltuvusest N Liidu (Venemaa) arengust. Tollase otsuse kaalukust tõendab fakt, et Euroopa Keskpank on kinnitanud meie rahasüsteemi sobivust kasutamiseks kuni Eesti täieliku ühinemiseni Euroopa Majandus- ja Rahaliiduga. Eesti kroon on väärilisel kohal ka meie riigi postmarkidel. Krooni taaskehtestamise 5. aastapäeva eel alustas Eesti Post raha tutvustavat seeriat, mille kujundamisel on kasutatud ka rahatähtede turvamärke. Nüüd, viis aastat hiljem, laseb Eesti Post käibele Lembit Lõhmuse kujundatud margiploki, millel vaataja tunneb ära Vladimir Taigeri kujundatud 100- ja 500 kroonise rahatähe elemente. Selline valik pole juhuslik, sest kõik Eesti pangatähed alates 5 kroonistest on V. Taigeri kujundatud.

The Estonian kroon was reintroduced as the official currency in Estonia as of 4 a.m. on 20 June 1992, and in the next few days residents were issued their first 150 kroons against 1,500 Soviet roubles. The Estonian monetary system is based on the currency board principle, with the kroon pegged first to the German mark and later to the euro. The currency reform ended the country's dependence from Soviet economy and set the basis for fast economic development. The European Central Bank has confirmed suitability of the Estonian monetary system until accession to the European Monetary Union. Postage stamps dedicated to the Estonian kroon have been issued in the country before. There is a set of four stamps, with the first stamp of 50 kroons face value issued shortly before the 5th anniversary of the reintroduction of the national currency in 1997. Five years later, Estonian Post marks the 10th anniversary of the currency reform by issuing a souvenir sheet of two 4.40 kroon stamps featuring portraits of the poetess Lydia Koidula and the journalist, writer and teacher Carl Robert Jakobson, key elements of the 100 and 500 kroon notes respectively. The portraits are by Vladimir Taiger, designer of all Estonian banknotes except 1 kroon and 2 kroons.
