As soon as the Estonians gained actual control of the capital of their
country they had proclaimed an independent democratic republic on 24 February
1918, an independent Estonian postal administration was set up on 13 November
1918, and the first postage stamps were issued on 22 November 1918.
In 1922, Estonia became member of the Universal
Postal Union. The stamp reproduces a 9-mark stamp (H/O 68, Mi 38B, Sc 63)
in the blacksmith design issued in April 18,1923 and the
Estonian Post logotype.
