XXXI suveolümpiamängud toimuvad 05. augustist 21. augustini Rio de Janeiros Brasiilias. See on esimene kord kui suveolümpiamänge võõrustab linn Lõuna Ameerika mandrilt. Rio olümpiamängudel osaleb 10 500 sportlast 206 riigist. Kokku toimuvad võistlused 28 spordialal 38 spordiareenil ja välja jagatakse 306 komplekti olümpiamedaleid. Üle pikkade aastate on taas olümpiaprogrammis golf ja rugby.
Esimese eestlasena võitis olümpiamedali maadleja Martin Klein 1912. aastal Stockholmis, kes esindas toona Tsaari-Venemaad. Esimese Eesti Vabariigi sportlasena krooniti olümpiavõitjaks tõstja Alfred Neuland 1920. aastal Antwerpenis. Eesti sportlased on suveolümpiamängudelt kokku võitnud 21 kuldmedalit, 21 hõbemedalit ja 27 pronksmedalit.
Tituleerituim Rio 2016 olümpiamängudele kvalifitseerunud Eesti sportlane on paljukordne tiitlivõistluste medalist, kettaheite olümpiavõitja ja maailmameister Gerd Kanter. Eesti koondise teeb eriliseks maratonijooksjatest kolmikõdede Lily, Liina ja Leila Luige olümpianormi täitmine. Nende startimisel Rios on tegemist olümpiaajaloo esimeste kolmikutega, kes olümpiamängudel võistlevad. Eesti on võistkonnaga esindatud naiste vehklemises ja meeste sõudmises.
The XXXI summer Olympic Games will take place from August 5 to August 21 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This will be the first time for a city of the South American continent to receive the summer Olympic Games. There will be 10,500 sportsmen from 206 countries taking part in the games and 306 sets of olympic medals will be handed out. In all there will be competitions in 28 sports and on 38 sport arenas and 306 sets of olympic medals will be handed out. Over a longer period of time golf and rugby will be once again in the Olympic program. The first Estonian to win an Olympic medal was the wrestler Martin Klein in 1912 in Stockholm; he then represented tsarist Russia. The weightlifter Alfred Neuland was crowned as the first sportsman of the Republic of Estonia at the 1920 games in Antwerpen. In all Estonian sportsmen have brought back home a total of 21 gold medals, 21 silver medals and 27 bronze medals from Summer Olympic Games. The most entitled Estonian sportsman at Rio 2016 is the many time title competitions medallist, discus throw Olympic winner and World title holder, Gerd Kanter. The Estonian team is made special by the meeting of the Olympic requirements of the women’s marathon team of the three sisters, Lily, Liina and Leila. They will be the first triplets to race at the Olympic Games. Besides Estonia will be represented in Rio in fencing and men’s rowing.
XXXI Olympische Sommerspiele
Die XXXI Olympischen Sommerspiele finden am 05.-22. August 2016 in Rio de Janeiro in Brasilien statt, zum ersten Mal in einer Stadt in Südamerika. An diesen Olympischen Spielen nehmen 10 500 Sportler aus 206 Ländern teil. Insgesamt werden die Kämpfe in 28 Sportarten auf 38 Sportstätten ausgetragen, es werden 306 Komplekte von Medaillen ausgehändigt. Nach vielen Jahren sind im Olympischen Programm wieder Golf und Rugby.
Als erster Este gewann eine Olympische Medaille der Ringer Martin Klein 1912 in Stockholm, damals Zaren Russland vertretend. Als erster Sportler der Republik Estland wurde 1920 in Antwerpen Alfred Neuland zum Olympiasieger im Gewichtheben gekrönt. Estnische Sportler haben bei Olympischen Sommerspielen 21 Gold-, 21 Silber- und 27 Bronzemedaillen gewonnen.
Der am meisten titulierte und für die Olympischen Spiele in Rio qualifizierte Estnische Sportler ist der vielfache Medaillengewinner, Olympiasieger und Weltmeister im Diskuswerfen Gerd Kanter. Für die Estnische Mannschaft ist besonders bemerkenswert die Erfüllung der olympischen Norm der Drillinge Lily, Liina und Leila Luik im Marathonlauf. Zum ersten Mal in der Geschichte der Olympischen Spiele nehmen an diesen Drillinge teil. Als m Mannschaften vertreten Rio Estland Frauen im Fechten und Männer in Rudern.
