11 km Keilast edelas asuvat Vasalemma küla mainiti esmakordselt 1241. aastal. Sajandeid Padise kloostrile ja –mõisale kuulunud alad kujunesid iseseisvaks mõisaks 1825. aastal. 1886 läks mõis Norra-Rootsi päritolu Baggehufwudtide perekonnale. Praegune mõisahoone valmis aastatel 1890-1893, ehitusmaterjaliks kohalik dolomiit, nn. Vasalemma marmor. Hoone projekteeris tolle aja Tallinna produktiivsemaid ehitustehnikuid K. Wilcken. See on Harjumaa neogooti ehituskunsti iseloomulikumaid näiteid. Hoonet ümbritseb vabakujunduslik park, enamik kõrvalhooneid on hävinud. Alates 1922. aastast tegutseb härrastemajas kool, praegu Vasalemma Põhikool.
Vasalemma, a village 11 km southeast of Keila and 35 km of Tallinn, was first mentioned in records in 1241. For several centuries the territory belonged to the Padise Cisterician Monastery and became an independent manor only in 1825. In 1886 the manor passed to the Baggehufwudts of Norwegian-Swedish descent. The present manor hall was completed in 1890–93. Its Gothic Revival design is by one of the most productive civil engineers of the period, K Wilcken, the material used being local dolomite, popularily called the Vasalemma marble.
