Ligi 6500 aastase vanusega Tolkuse raba on Rannametsa-Soometsa maastikukaitseala keskne ja suurim osa, mis asub Pärnu madalikul Uulu ja Häädemeeste vahel. Tema üldpind on 55 km2, sellest madalsood 34,7 km2 ja raba 16,2 km2. Ta on ainulaadne kogu Euroopas selle poolest, et on üks vähestest rabastaadiumini arenenud laguunitekkelistest soodest. Taimkatelt ja ilmelt (kümned laukad ja läbipääsmatud märed) on Tolkuse raba Lääne-Eesti suursoode tüüpiline esindaja.
The nearly 6,500-year old Tolkuse Bog is the central, and biggest, part of the Rannametsa-Soometsa landscape reserve situated in the Pärnu lowlands in southwestern Estonia. It has an area of 55 sq km, including 34.7 sq km of low-lying marshes and 16.2 sq km of raised bog. It is unique in Europe because it is one of few where a lagoon-type wetland has developed to the raised bog stage. For its plant cover and appearance (dozens of pools and impenetrable mires) Tolkuse Bog is a typical representative of large West-Estonian wetlands.
